Electric balloon pumps are usually used for birthdays, school events and other short-term projects, which means one can sit in a closet for months between uses. CPSC announced an October 1, 2026 recall of about 360,500 Dollar Tree electric balloon pumps because they can overheat.
Quick Takeaway: Stop using the recalled pump and compare the model information with the official CPSC notice. The remedy is a refund through Dollar Tree.
How Large Is the Recall?
CPSC says about 360,500 electric balloon pumps are included. The notice identifies model number 406198, shown on a rating label on the bottom of the product.
What Is the Reported Hazard?
The recalled pumps can overheat, posing a burn hazard. Do not wait for a burning smell, discoloration or a hot housing before checking the model.
What Consumers Should Do
Stop using an affected pump and follow Dollar Tree’s recall instructions for a refund. Keep the product unplugged while you verify the model and remedy.
Check Stored Party Equipment Before the Next Event
Because small appliances are often stored after one use, recalls can be missed. Before plugging in a rarely used device, check the cord, housing and model label and search CPSC if you are unsure about its safety history.
Do Not Try to “Use It Briefly”
An overheating electrical product does not become safe because it is used for only a few balloons. If the model is recalled, remove it from use and complete the official remedy.
Our Practical Take
Low-cost electrical products can still create high-consequence risks. A 30-second model check is more useful than trying to judge safety from appearance alone.
